Baltimore Children’s Choir to perform Nov. 4 in Lewes

October 27, 2023

The Baltimore Children’s Choir will present a concert at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at Lewes Presbyterian Church.

This choir program lifts up and empowers inner-city kids in Baltimore and surrounding counties. The choir is composed of children from kindergarten to 12th grade, drawn from 50 different schools. The program works with underserved populations to provide music education. The group sings a variety of music from sacred to secular, offering classical pieces as well as modern works.

Before joining the choir, children audition with the director, Joseph Shortall. He is known personally by Lewes Presbyterian Church choir director, Sarah Rose.

The Baltimore Children’s Choir began as part of the Handel Children’s Choir in Baltimore in 2000. In 2008, it became independent and adopted its present name. The choir has groups for beginners, intermediate and advanced singers, and has been led by Artistic Director Joseph Shortall since 2012. Lewes Presbyterian Church is hosting this group to promote music and encouragement in the city of Lewes and the surrounding area.
