Bridge tournament to bring hundreds of players to Rehoboth
Hundreds of bridge players from up and down the Eastern Seaboard will be descending on Rehoboth Beach the week of April 29 to compete in the third annual Rehoboth Beach Regional.
Tournament Co-Chair Kim Holm said about 600 players from Nova Scotia to Florida will participate in the weeklong District 4 regional hosted by the American Contract Bridge League. Primarily, the players are from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C.
The tournament takes place in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Holm said there will be 100 tables set up, with four players at each table.
“It’s going to be a full house,” said Holm.
Immediately following the close of action Wednesday, May 1, there will be a cheese and wine event at 6 p.m. featuring local musician Justin-David Jewell. This is a new and complementary event, with everything available at no charge, said Holm.
In the past, said Holm, the regional tournament was held in the Philadelphia or Wilmington areas, but attendance was declining after COVID so they decided to make a move a couple of years ago.
“At the time, we were only going to have it for one year in Rehoboth, but the players enjoy being in town so much that we’ve committed to having it here for at least another four years,” said Holm. “People love the city and the convenience of being able to walk around town.”
