Cape boys’ lax beats Sussex Tech 21-5 on Senior Night

Vikings host Archmere then Salesianum to close out the season

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team rocked the clock May 3 on Senior Night beating Sussex Tech 21-5 in a runaway game the Vikings led 15-3 at halftime. 

Ten seniors are heading toward prom, graduation and freshman year in college. The season is about to get serious; there are no more easy rides. 

Cape will host Archmere at 7 p.m., Friday, May 10. The Auks (8-4) are coming off a dominating 8-1 over a Wilmington Friends team Cape beat in sudden-death overtime. The Auks have lost only to Salesianum and Pennsylvania powers Rustin, Episcopal and Springside Chestnut Hill. 

Cape will close out the regular season at home Tuesday, May 14, hosting nationally ranked Salesianum with a record of 11-2. 

Sallies lost to the Lawrenceville School of New Jersey 9-8 and last weekend lost to Malvern Prep of Pennsylvania 9-8 in a game they led 5-1 in the first half. 

Goal scorers in the win over Sussex Tech were Anderson Smith with five, Mike Guenther and Burke Healy with three each, Grant Conway with two and Jack Schell, Evan Burris, Ryan Morgan, Braddock Smith, Lucas Stevenson, Jack Huss, Hank Anderson and Jukai Payne with one each.

Cape assists were Brenner Short and Ryan Morgan with two apiece and Guenther, Conway, Jake Hutchison and Anderson with one apiece.

Gus Musika had four saves, while Mason Trench collected five. 

The brackets for the boys’ state tournament will be announced Saturday, May 18.
