Cape High students place first in state for on-demand video
A team of Cape High students won first place in state competition for their on-demand video that was also used to open the Delaware Pathways Conference.
Given eight hours to complete the task, students Andrew Gille, David Lynch, Emily McCullough, Alia Justiniani and Madison Mastriana created an award-winning, one-minute video for the Delaware Technology Student Association State Leadership Conference in April.
Students had to write, act, produce, direct and edit the video designed to promote different pathways available in Delaware schools, including allied health, culinary and hospitality management, and plant science.
Nearly 700 middle and high school students participated in the 45th annual STEM conference hosted by the University of Delaware’s College of Engineering.
Cape High Audio/Radio/Video teacher Bruce Leibu said the ARV pathway gives students real-world practice in cinematography and video production while also developing soft skills, such as how to work in a group.
Next year, he said students hope to compete in the Student TV Network competition in Long Beach, Calif., where they can participate in contests and workshops, and learn from like-minded students.
To raise funds, students offer digitizing services for VHS and audio tapes, and can convert them to cloud platforms or DVDs, Leibu said. To learn more, contact Leibu at bruce.leibu@cape.k12.de.us.
