Collick, Lopez support Cape referendum

March 22, 2024

The arrival of spring is a welcome mile post for Cape Henlopen School District teachers and students. It is a season that yields growth and success both inside and outside the classroom. The meaningful instruction, collaboration and care, which occurs every day in our Cape schools, is a testament to an enriching and supportive environment created by teachers and staff, committed to the intellectual growth and wellness of students.

From the Little Vikings Early Education Program to the life-changing mentorship and instruction that takes place at Sussex Consortium, there is no school district in the state that meets and serves its students at the interface of so many diverse and interdisciplinary points on the educational continuum. Be it at the Rehoboth Bandstand on Veterans Day, where our Cape Henlopen High School JROTC stand alongside our men and women in uniform, to small businesses along the Route 1 corridor, where students not only learn life skills but also enhance the economic impact of our coastal economy, the Cape Henlopen School District, our school district, is second to none and deserves our full support. There is no greater moment to step forward and stand alongside/in support of our Cape students and teachers than in the upcoming district referendum Tuesday, March 26.

Each of us has spent our professional careers working at educational institutions here in the First State and humbly served our constituents as elected officials here at home, from the Cape Henlopen school board to the Delaware General Assembly. While our respective oaths of office contained different language, one phrase is identical in each – “to the best of my ability.”

Together, we ask for your vote and support of our Cape teachers and students, so their future success is enhanced and embraced to reflect the best of their abilities for years to come.

Bill Collick
Cape Henlopen school board member
Ernesto López
State senator, District 6, retired
