Community should support Cape referendum

March 15, 2024

I am writing to express my strong support for the upcoming Cape Henlopen School District referendum, scheduled for Tuesday, March 26. As a proud parent who loves this community and someone who stands alongside our teachers and students, I believe that investing in our schools is crucial for the overall well-being of our community.

The referendum seeks to address critical needs within our district, including increased funding for essential operations, a natatorium and other district spaces that are needed. These investments are not only about providing better resources for our students and community but also about ensuring that Cape schools continue to be the first choice of families and a district of choice for those wishing to pursue careers in education.

I understand that some may have concerns about the potential tax implications of this referendum. With that said, I firmly believe the long-term benefits far outweigh the short-term costs. By investing in our schools now, we are investing in the future of our community. I urge my fellow Cape Region neighbors who have questions or want to learn more to attend the final community meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, March 18, at Lewes Elementary School. Having an informed vote is important.

I hope you join me in supporting the Cape Henlopen School District referendum March 26. Together, we can ensure that our schools continue to provide the high-quality education our students deserve.
