Welcoming their southern rival Indian River to Mohr Floor April 24, the Delmarva Christian boys’ volleyball team's hopes of ending the season’s first losing streak were dashed as the visitors claimed a 3-1 victory over the Royals.

After dropping the first set 25-14 to a now 6-2 IR squad, Delmarva Christian battled valiantly in the second set but came up short, 25-22 to go down 2-0 in the match. Their efforts in the second set, and support for one another, carried over into a must-win third set.

Outside hitters Seth Mifflin and Harrison Schlabach picked up their aggression as middle blockers Quinn Downs and Ethan Fels began syncing their timing on blocks with IR’s swings. The tense battle led to a 25-20 victory for the Royals and forced a fourth set.

IR proved why they are the favorites to represent the Southern Division in the Henlopen Conference Championship, regrouping following the third-set loss to win the fourth 25-10, strolling out of Georgetown with a 3-1 victory.

Delmarva Chrisitan welcomes their cross-town rival Sussex Academy at 4 p.m., Friday, April 26, before finishing the season with five straight matches against northern opponents.

The final three will be at home as the Royals try to solidify their resume for the DIAA state tournament.
