Eastern Sussex Democrats to meet May 3

Eastern Sussex Democrats will meet at 5 p.m., Friday, May 3, at the Retreat at Love Creek Clubhouse, 19895 Cardiff Circle in Lewes. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m., with a buffet dinner before the presentation. The cost is $25 per person for ESD members and $30 for nonmembers. The guest speaker will be U.S. congressional candidate Sarah McBride, a state senator representing District 1 in Wilmington. McBride is the first openly transgender state senator in the country, making her the highest-ranking transgender elected official in United States history. Before she was elected to office, McBride worked as an advocate to deliver critical wins across Delaware. She led the successful effort to pass landmark non-discrimination protections in Delaware and championed legislation that protects vulnerable youth from child abuse. As a state senator, she has helped pass legislation expanding access to healthcare, requiring mental health and media literacy education in public schools, promoting green technologies, preventing lead poisoning in youth, and protecting workers and families.
