Faith and housing justice weekend set Nov. 17-21

November 15, 2023

Housing Alliance Delaware will host the Faith and Housing Justice Weekend from Friday, Nov. 17 to Tuesday, Nov. 21, with events at various locations throughout Delaware. The community project aims to raise awareness about the affordable housing crisis and educate faith-based communities to be part of the solution.

In Sussex County, the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold a Finding Home service at 10 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, at 30486 Lewes Georgetown Highway, Lewes. For details, call 541-390-6052.

The weekend brings together individuals, religious communities and organizations committed to social justice and affordable housing. Participants engage in various activities such as prayerful moments, expert speakers, artist interpretations, intergenerational programming, and sermons focused on housing and homelessness. These events provide opportunities for education, dialogue, networking and action planning.

Faith and Housing Justice Weekend seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the intersections between faith and housing justice, emphasizing the moral imperative to ensure everyone has access to safe, affordable and sustainable housing. It encourages people of all faiths to come together in solidarity and work toward creating just and equitable housing systems. Participants may learn about advocacy strategies, hear inspiring testimonies from those affected by housing injustice and explore innovative approaches to affordable housing. The event also aims to build partnerships among faith-based organizations, housing advocates, policymakers and community leaders to collectively address housing inequality.
