Friends set wine, cheese and beer tasting in the park April 13

April 7, 2024

The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park will host its annual wine, cheese and beer tasting from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, April 13, in the Officer’s Club at the park.

Using a commemorative wine glass, each attendee will be able to sample a variety of wines and find favorites. Orders may be placed with R&L Liquors for later pickup. Featured beers will also be available at R&L Liquors.

Friends volunteers will be passing out tasty hors d’oeuvres designed to pair well with the wines and beers. President Jeff Underwood said he believes this tasting may offer the broadest range of flavors yet. The traditional raffle will feature fun alcohol-related prizes.

Tickets purchased in advance are $27 each, which includes the park entrance fee. They are available from R&L Liquors on Second Street in Lewes as well as the Cape Henlopen State Park office and Lewes Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $30, with cash, credit cards or debit cards accepted. The price also includes a commemorative wineglass for the tasting.

The historic Officer’s Club building was constructed before World War II as part of Fort Miles, now Cape Henlopen State Park. Directions to the club will be clearly posted in the park, and there is plenty of parking.

The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park sponsors a variety of activities in support of the park, the most visible being the free Borrow a Bike Program and the children's playground.
