Garden center workshops kick off April 13

The Inland Bays Garden Center announced its upcoming workshops at 38320 Muddy Neck Road, Frankford.

The C-Glass Sisters will lead workshops from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 13. Participants will make their own dog or seagull picture using authentic sea glass handpicked on the Delmarva coastline.

Professional landscaper Amanda Kathryn Pappas will offer tips for garden design from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sunday, April 14. Attendees will explore the essential elements needed to create a successful plan focused on naturalized landscapes within an ecological gardening mindset. Attendees may bring images or sketches of  their garden, yard or space to refer to while selecting plants to create their own designs.

Helen Raleigh of Story Hill Farm in Frankford will lead a workshop on backyard meadow gardens from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, April 20. Raleigh’s four-acre wildflower meadow on the way to the farm is a sanctuary for dozens of types of pollinators and birds. She will share her knowledge of meadow planting based on the key elements of site preparation, timing, seed selection and maintenance.

Alison Webb Schweiger will lead a container pot gardening session from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, April 26. Participants should bring or purchase their own pot with an inside diameter of at least 12 inches, root space and a drainage hole. 

Chantal Bouchard will lead a class on shade plants from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, April 27. Attendees will discover how to navigate the various degrees of shade in a garden and select shade plants that will thrive in the coastal area. It’s as simple as selecting the right plant for the right place so the shaded garden will become an oasis of beauty.
