Georgetown woman dies while crossing Georgetown roadway

A 39-year-old Georgetown woman was struck and killed Jan. 8 while crossing Dupont Boulevard in Georgetown.

The crash happened at 6:14 p.m. when a Volkswagen Jetta was going southbound on Dupont Boulevard in the left lane north of Ennis Road and a Honda Accord was traveling southbound in the right lane behind the Jetta, police said. For unknown reason, police said, Sonya Briddell stepped in front of the Jetta and was struck and thrown into the right lane where she was then struck by the Honda.

Briddell was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither the driver of the Jetta, an Ellendale man, 45, nor the driver of the Honda, a Millsboro man, 39, was injured, police said.

The roadway was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
