Irish dance students kick up their heels for St. Patrick’s Day

March 22, 2024

St. Patrick's Day weekend was a time to shine for students from McGough Academy School of Irish Dance in Rehoboth Beach.

Instructor Lindsey Mayo and the girls worked during the past year preparing for numerous shows to spread Irish cheer around the Cape Region, including Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Millsboro.

The performances helped raise money for the McGough Academy Foundation, which provides financial assistance to aspiring Irish dancers, choreographers and artists.

The dancers are ages 4-11 and range in level from beginner to open champion. Beginner Morgan Moskowitz, the youngest dancer at age 4, and several other girls have been dancing with McGough Academy since shortly after the Rehoboth Beach location opened in September 2022. The school also features open champion worldwide competitors such as Erin Mayo. She has placed in the top 10 at every overseas major Irish dancing competition, including world championships, and started Irish dancing at the age of 3.

Highlights included solo performances, ceili dancing and electrifying group numbers at venues including restaurants, pubs and a country club.

"The dancers crushed their Saint Patrick's Day weekend shows! Already excited for next year,” said Meagan McGough, owner of McGough Academy. "It's incredibly rewarding to see the dancers’ hard work come to life on stage. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our dancing with the Coastal Delaware community."

McGough Academy has locations in Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland, all of which inspire tradition and talent. For more information about McGough Academy School of Irish Dance, go to McGoughacademy.com.
