Lewes woman dies in bicycle crash on Route 24

A Lewes woman died March 5 after police said she was struck by a box truck while biking on Route 24.

The crash happened at 1:57 a.m., when police said Lisa Norton, 58, rode into the eastbound lane of Route 24 west of Mulberry Knoll Road at the same time a 2020 Isuzu six-wheel box truck was traveling eastbound on Route 24. As a result, police said, the box truck struck Norton in the eastbound travel lane.

Norton was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck, a Salisbury man, 60, was properly restrained and not injured.

The roadway was closed for about two-and-a-half hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident and asks anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Master Cpl. K. Argo at 302-703-3264.
