Mako Swim Club shines in Florida

Mako Swim Club, a competitive USA Swim Team from Harbeson, sent 13 swimmers to compete at the International Swim Coach Association Elite Showcase Classic April 3-6 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The showcase brings together the top age group swimmers from across the nation to compete both individually and as relay teams over four days. Swimmers trained hard all season to meet the competitive qualifying times that were required to swim at the meet.

"I could not be more proud of this team," said Mako head coach Strohm Edwards.

With almost 1,500 swimmers representing 100-plus teams, Mako Swim Club finished 14th overall, with the girls’ team finishing 25th and the boys team ranking 10th. Mako swimmer Jaxen Edwards earned the high point award for 13-year-old boys.

"All the credit goes to the kids and the hard work that they put into their training throughout the season," said coach Edwards.

The 13 swimmers who represented Mako Swim Club were: Jayleigh Akers, Leah Akers, Levi Corcoran, Estelle Damouni, Gabriella Damouni, Jaxen Edwards, Jade Feusner, Payton Garnsey, Kensi Hawk, Macyn Hockman, Noah Madden, Ethan Schirmer and Lisandro Vasquez.

Those who placed in the top 10 of their event and earned a medal are:

13-year-old 500 free - Jaxen Edwards, first (boys); Levi Corcoran, sixth (boys)

12-year-old 50 backstroke - Ethan Schirmer, fourth (boys)
