Sussex County Council President Mike Vincent has filed to run for re-election to the District 1 seat. Republican Vincent of Seaford started serving on council in 2008 and has served as vice president and president. If elected, it would be his fifth four-year term.

Vincent, 78, is a former member of Seaford City Council. He is a past chief and president as well as a lifetime member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife Elaine have one grown daughter and three grandchildren.

He lists his priorities as public safety, land use and fostering economic development opportunities.

District 1 includes the southwestern portions of Sussex County, including the Bethel, Blades, Delmar, Laurel and Seaford areas.

Vincent will face off in a primary with Republican candidate Matt Lloyd of Laurel, who has also filed to run for the seat.

Other council members whose seats are up for election are Mark Schaeffer, District 3, and Cindy Green, District 2.
