My wife and I retired and moved to Delaware after being born and raised in New York City, Coney Island to be exact. That’s in Brooklyn. We love it here. Another seaside area but without all the tumult of the Big Apple. Does anyone call it that anymore? Something that always impresses us about Lewes, Rehoboth and several other towns is the availability of public restrooms. It may sound silly, but we come from a place where you can’t find a bathroom if you’re out and about unless you buy something somewhere and ask to use the restroom. “Bathroom for customers only” is a popular sign around NYC. We now live in the outskirts of Milton near Route 1. We enjoy going into town for nature walks along the Milton rail to trail, patronizing the eateries, grocery shopping at Food Lion, visiting the library and taking in some great shows at the Milton Theatre. I’ve read in the Gazette that Milton proper wants to build up the waterfront, add parking space and host events to bring in tourism and make Milton a destination. I hope that in the plans for improvements there is some room for public restrooms. Whether in a parking garage or a freestanding unit in the park, a public restroom would be a welcome addition to the town. As a prostate-challenged senior, I would really appreciate that addition.
