Cape school board meets March 14

The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 14 at H.O. Brittingham Elementary. The board will possibly vote to approve an update to the special election notice and to approve the 2024-25 district calendar. Lewes council to hold budget workshop

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a budget workshop and special meeting at 9 a.m., Friday, March 15, at city hall.

The agenda includes possible action to adopt the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. A budget must be in place by April 1.

The Lewes Planning Commission’s Open Space Subcommittee will meet at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14, at the Rollins Center.

The Lewes Finance Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 14 at city hall.

The panel will receive an update on the Open Space Alliance fundraising effort to buy Fourth Street Preserve.

Rehoboth budget meeting March 15

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special budget meeting at 9 a.m., Friday, March 15, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on the Fiscal Year 25 budget, which begins April 1.

Rehoboth meeting set for March 15

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 2 p.m., Friday, March 15, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for approval of next year’s budget, approval of changes to personnel code and the formal ratification of attorney Alex Burns’ appointment as city solicitor.

Dewey commissioners meeting set March 15

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold a public hearing and monthly meeting at 3 p.m., Friday, March 15 at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Public hearings and possible votes will be held on an ordinance relating to smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and an ordinance regarding impervious surface requirements. Other hearings and possible votes will take place regarding temporary expansion of premises for The Starboard opening weekend March 15–17, for Running of the Bill June 29, and for Dewey Goes Pink Oct. 5. Commissioners may also vote to approve the town landscaping and town beach raking contracts, to strike civil penalties for use and possession of personal-use quantities of marijuana and associated drug paraphernalia, and to submit town charter amendments to be considered by the state Legislature. Dewey board of adjustment to meet

The Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 19 at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Members will discuss and possibly vote to approve three variances requested for a property located at 1 McKinley Ave., Unit 11. Owners are seeking relief to permit the construction of a third-floor addition to extend 2-feet-2-inches into the 8-foot side-yard setback, to permit the construction of a third-floor addition to extend 18-feet-7-inches into the 22-foot front-yard setback, and to permit the construction of a second and third story deck to extend 4-feet into the 8-foot side-yard setback.

Lewes council public hearings held

Lewes Mayor and Council held three public hearings March 4.

A hearing on a proposed ordinance to change the definitions of pervious and impervious surfaces drew no public comment on the measure

During another hearing on a proposed ordinance aimed at protecting trees during construction, public comments focused on the ordinance wording. The measure would apply to new construction, not additions.

The third public hearing was for a proposed outdoor music ordinance; details are covered in a separate article.

Milton seeks lifetime award nominees

The Town of Milton is taking submissions for this year’s Lifetime Volunteer Award and Citizen of the Year Award.

These awards are given every year to citizens who have contributed to the community. 

Nominees must be Milton residents who have shown volunteer commitment, over the course of the year or their lifetime. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 22. Letters of nomination must provide a supporting explanation of the candidate’s volunteer service to Milton. 

Letters can be mailed or dropped off addressed to either 2024 Citizen of the Year or 2024 Lifetime Volunteer Award, Attn: Town Manager Kristy Rogers, Town Hall, 115 Federal St., Milton, DE 19968 or emailed to krogers@ci.milton.de.us.
