Sussex sets May 7 workshop, meeting

Sussex County Council will meet at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown, following a 9 a.m. budget workshop at the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center, Georgetown. 

Included on the meeting agenda under old business are six solar array applications. 

The workshop agenda includes an open discussion among council, county administration and staff on the fiscal year 2025 budget.

Buffers on Sussex P&Z May 9 agenda

Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 9, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are public hearings on revised ordinances relating to accessory dwelling units and perimeter buffers around residential developments. Rehoboth planners to meet May 10

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Friday, May 10. The agenda calls for a continuation of the public hearing related to the partitioning of 54 Kent St. The agenda also calls for a site plan review public hearing for the properties at 413, 415 and 417 Rehoboth Ave. The property owner has proposed three separate mixed-used structures, each with retail on the ground level and a two-story apartment above.

The meeting will be conducted in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. A full agenda, meeting materials and a livestream are accessible at cityofrehoboth.civicweb.net. Some Rehoboth rules in effect as of May 1

Paid parking season doesn’t begin in Rehoboth Beach until Wednesday, May 15, but a number of summer season-related rules took effect May 1.

No left turns are now allowed from the eastbound lane of Rehoboth Avenue onto North Second Street, westbound lane of Rehoboth Avenue onto South Second Street, eastbound lane of Rehoboth Avenue onto North First Street, westbound lane of Rehoboth Avenue onto South First Street, and from First Street and Second Street onto Rehoboth Avenue from either north or south.

People are prohibited from being on the beach between the hours of 1 a.m. and daybreak, and dogs are not allowed on the beach or Boardwalk from May 1 through Sept. 30.

Rehoboth planning commission to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a special meeting for 2 p.m., Thursday, May 9. The agenda calls for the continuation of the preliminary site plan review of the proposed Belhaven Hotel at 2 Rehoboth Ave. The proposed 92-room hotel is four stories, with retail at ground level and the hotel above. There’s also a 94-vehicle parking garage underground. The building’s total square footage, excluding the lower parking level, is roughly 115,000 square feet.

Lewes open space panel to meet May 9

The Lewes Open Space Subcommittee will meet at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 9, at the Rollins Center.

Senior center to host wellness fair May 9 in Rehoboth

Cape Henlopen Senior Center will host its annual wellness information health fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, May 9, at 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach.

From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Beebe Healthcare will provide free testing for blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density, body mass index and glucose. No appointment is necessary. 

Guest speakers for the day are as follows, and advance registration is required due to limited seating. At 10 a.m., Glen Berry will present on senior self-defense. At 11 a.m., Judy Schlott will discuss mental health. At 11:30 a.m., Patrick Carney will address senior Medicare fraud. At 1 p.m.,  Anita Marie Rumley will discuss identity theft. At 1:30 p.m., Rumley will present Medicare 101. At 2 p.m., optometrist Dr. Rachel Hartman will discuss preserving vision and caring for aging eyes.

Beebe career events set in Millsboro, Georgetown
