Parish thrift shops seek volunteers
All Saints’ Parish Thrift Shop’s second store is planned to open later this summer at 18675 Coastal Highway, Suite 1, Rehoboth Beach, in the site previously occupied by the Beebe Treasure Chest at Midway Shopping Center.
The new shop will focus on upscale merchandise and donations. Coinciding with the establishment of a second location, the thrift shops are undergoing a rebranding to include new signage at both locations. The new official names are The Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ Church & St. George’s Chapel Parish Thrift Shop @Midway for the new location, and @Rehoboth for the current location, which will continue its operations at 20673 Coastal Highway in the Ocean Bay Mart Shopping Center on the Forgotten Mile behind Rehoboth Auto Repair.
This change reflects the Episcopal churches the parish comprises, All Saints' Church on Olive Avenue in downtown Rehoboth and St. George's Chapel on Beaver Dam Road near Harbeson. The stores will continue to support community outreach through charitable giving and in-kind donations, and working in partnership with nonprofit organizations to provide job and life skills to their clients.
An integral part of the fabric of the community, the parish thrift shop started as a rummage sale in the All Saints' Parish Hall in the 1980s. It was so successful, it quickly outgrew that space and relocated to Coastal Highway, opening up as an official thrift shop in the mid-1980s. The shop has been in continuous operation ever since, having relocated several times over the years until it landed at its current Rehoboth location more than 10 years ago. The Rehoboth site will remain open and continue to offer a large selection of merchandise, friendly customer service, ample space and off-street parking. Both locations will accept donations.
With the onset of the second location, additional volunteers are needed to help make a smooth transition and expansion.
