Our thanks go out to so many participants who helped make the inaugural Race for Open Space an overwhelming success April 20. More than 200 people registered to enjoy a true community event supported by almost 40 businesses.
The race was organized by Seashore Striders in partnership with the City of Lewes and the Greater Lewes Foundation, with proceeds benefiting funding for the Fourth Street Preserve campaign. The Open Space Alliance team offers our sincere appreciation to all our sponsors as well as those businesses who provided in-kind contributions or gift cards.
With the rain holding off, the Williams Brothers provided live music while Creative East Films handled aerial coverage. Our thanks to Sen. Russ Huxtable, Sussex County Councilman Mark Schaeffer, Lewes Mayor Andrew Williams and Councilperson Carolyn Jones, plus all our volunteers, for so much assistance in coordination and management of operations. Efforts by the Lewes City Council, administration, and Streets and Lewes Police Departments are also much appreciated.
The festivities were enhanced with the attendance of Lewes Elementary School students. Their environmental posters were displayed on banners, reminding all of us about the significance of preserving this land not only for today, but also for our future.
