On April 21, the Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club conducted a successful Empty Bowls fundraiser at Love Creek Elementary School. Empty Bowls events are held by Rotary clubs and other nonprofits across the United States and Canada to raise funds to eliminate food insecurity. All monies raised at this event will stay here in Sussex County. Typically, ticket holders will select a bowl, handmade by local potters, to take home and will enjoy a light meal and entertainment. Hundreds of bowls were thrown and donated by the Rehoboth Art League and the Mispillion Art League, as well as several private individuals who were also willingly to donate their talents.
The club would like to express its sincere thanks to all who contributed to this event’s success – Matt’s Fish Camp and Fish On for providing three delightful soup choices, Pasqualini's Italian Bread and Vanderwende’s Creamery for providing ice cream and Aldi’s cookies. Guests enjoyed music by Matt Lafferty on guitar and the amazing “Mind Mysteries” performance by WXDE 105.9 FM radio talk show host Dan Gaffney who delivered quite an intriguing performance to a delighted audience.
The staff of Love Creek Elementary, Bill McCracken and Mike Thomas were capably assisted by Nutrition Services Manager Jaime Andrews and technology support services from Mary Beth D’Amico, all who helped to make the day seamless, again demonstrating the excellence of Cape Henlopen School District.
We were grateful for the support of Sen. Russ Huxtable and Sussex County Councilman Mark Schaeffer as well as and Rotary District 7630 Leadership District Governor John Mager, PDG Bill Ferguson, DGN Dale Kerns and DGND Ken Montville.
