Running of the Bull set for June 29 at The Starboard

Expansion of premises also granted for Dewey Goes Pink Oct. 5

With little discussion, Dewey Beach commissioners voted unanimously March 15 to approve three expansion of premise applications for The Starboard events, including the Running of the Bull set for Saturday, June 29.

The Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery also submitted applications for two other annual events, Opening Weekend from March 15-17, and Dewey Goes Pink on Saturday, Oct. 5.

A parody of Spain’s Running of the Bulls, The Starboard’s 27th annual event includes live entertainment and the bull run, when thousands of revelers decked in signature red and white colors run across Coastal Highway, along the shoreline and back with the bull – just two guys in a bull costume.

Then, all participants return to the restaurant for the bull fight, typically championed by a guest celebrity matador. No official word yet on who will serve as this year’s matador.

Each year, the event raises thousands of dollars for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company; last year, the donation hit $10,000.

The 13th annual Dewey Goes Pink is set for Saturday, Oct. 5, and benefits the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. The event includes a 5K/walk, live entertainment, pig roast and other food stations.

In 2023, more than 4,400 Dewey Goes Pink participants raised $330,000. In all, the event has raised a total of $1.5 million in 12 years for the coalition.
