So you want to submit a press release?

Helpful guidelines to streamline the process, ensure publication in the Cape Gazette
March 19, 2024

We love press releases. Community engagement is the lifeblood of the Cape Gazette, and we appreciate every contribution we receive. In that spirit, we’d like to highlight some basic guidelines and share tips on how you can make your press release the best it can be while meeting our standards for submission.

Where do I send it?

Please send all press release materials to newsroom@capegazette.com.

What are the deadlines?

We have a set of firm submission deadlines in place to provide readers with a high-quality, carefully packaged newspaper twice weekly. While there are always exceptions to the rules, we try to adhere to the following deadlines to effectively manage the high volume of material. Press releases on local, time-sensitive events and programs always take precedence over non-time-sensitive items.

• Deadline for consideration in the Tuesday edition is 2 p.m. the previous Friday.

• Deadline for consideration in the Friday edition is 2 p.m. the previous Tuesday.

• Submission by deadline does not guarantee inclusion in the next edition of the Cape Gazette.

Press release guidelines

These guidelines help us streamline the processing of submissions and can better the chances that your press release will make the paper.

Common pitfalls we see in submissions are missing or incomplete IDs for people shown in photos; photos sent embedded in documents rather than as jpeg email attachments; and submissions in the form of fliers or PDF documents.

Our comprehensive guide on how to submit a press release can be found at capegazette.com/sites/capegazette/files/design/cgimages/contact/press-release-cg.pdf?_t=1657655677.
