Sullivan’s Landscaping merges with Shore Property Maintenance

April 10, 2024

Shore Property Maintenance and Sullivan's Landscaping & Maintenance announced the companies’ recent merger. Operations will continue under the name Sullivan's Landscaping & Maintenance, with the Shore Property team’s continuing involvement to carry on its legacy.

In the early 1980s, Ted Nowakowski founded Shore Property Maintenance. As a lifelong resident of Rehoboth Beach with an entrepreneurial family who had owned many businesses in the area, Nowakowski set out with a Jeep and a trailer doing yard maintenance and other landscape jobs that were available at the time. Over the years, Nowakowski used his contacts with local developers and business owners to expand the business, aided by his family members who provided labor, and of course, their opinions on how to better serve the customers.

As the area grew, so did Shore Property Maintenance. Once located at the iconic barn on Kings Highway, the company purchased land and relocated to Hollyville, expanding operations to include all facets of landscape maintenance as well as design/build capabilities. With the merger, the property now serves as home to Sullivan’s Landscaping & Maintenance.

In 1988, John and Laura Sullivan started their business with a truck, a trailer and an incredible work ethic with the drive and resilience to push through the toughest of times. The Sullivan name is synonymous with honesty and integrity, which is carried by the second generation consisting of Colby and Joel Sullivan. Over the years, Sullivan's Landscaping & Maintenance successfully grew within its hometown of Milford, and expanded further in 2021 with the opening of a Selbyville branch to service Southern Delaware.

Sullivan's owners have long searched for a location near Millsboro, the midpoint between its two existing locations. This location and merger is a win-win for them to foster new relationships with Shore Property's existing customers and to better serve their current partners through proximity.

The Sullivan's Landscaping & Maintenance team members look forward to embracing this endeavor that will take them into the future as the preferred local choice.

The two local enterprises share a background as successful family-owned and -operated companies. Being able to connect with the expertise and resources of two large-scale, family-owned businesses combined into one, with no private equity and no out-of-state controlling interest, will allow every current and future customer of the newly merged Sullivan's Landscaping & Maintenance to continue to enjoy the service and integrity of a longtime, local, established business.
