Turtle Time

Mallery Galaska found this Eastern box turtle recently and snapped its photo for posterity. According to Wikipedia, when in danger the turtle is able to close the plastron - the nearly-flat part of the shell - by pulling the hinged sections closely against the convex (back) part, effectively sealing the soft body in bone, hence forming a "box.” The more you know!
