UUSD to discuss favorite banned books Oct. 1

September 27, 2023

Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will host an in-person discussion forum titled My Favorite Banned Books from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, at 30486 Lewes Georgetown Highway (Route 9), Lewes. The event is free and open to the public, and parking is free. The forum will address the national movement to ban books from retail stores, public libraries and school libraries, and other places.

This meeting’s purpose is to generate lively, civil, fun and respectful conversation on this important subject. Some books banned are “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Beloved,” “Lord of The Flies,” “12 Years a Slave,” “Ricky the Rock that Couldn't Roll,” “Catcher in The Rye,” “The Spanish Daughter,” “Alice in Wonderland” and other favorites. Questions for discussion include: What do these books have in common? How will book bans impact communities? What is needed to create a broader understanding of the issue? This is a forum to share information, feelings and opinions with others concerned about the movements to ban books.

UUSD is a welcoming and progressive spiritual community with a faith rooted in love and justice. Their mission is to nurture spiritual growth, embrace diversity, work for justice and strive for a loving world.
