Virginia Lee Kerstetter, had contagious laugh

April 16, 2024

Virginia “Ginny” Lee Kerstetter, 78, sweet, lovable, and funny to the very end, departed this life to join Jesus Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in Lewes. She was born Dec. 13, 1945, to the late Eugene and Mildred (Wimbrow) Detore of Wilmington.

She was a graduate of John Dickinson High School, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Lester Levi Kerstetter. They raised two sons and remained married for 46 years until Lester’s passing in 2010.

Always kindhearted, Ginny never wavered with her love for her two sons. She will always be remembered for her high-pitched laugh that was contagious to all around. Ginny was a big lover of puppy dogs as they held a special place in her heart. A good friend to many, she will be missed by her friends at Anchor Motor Freight Co., friends at Newark National Little League, Deacon's Walk and Linden Knoll neighbors, and her Red Hat Society friends. Some of her most cherished memories were surf-fishing at Cape Henlopen State Park with her family while watching the passing dolphins and sunset behind the Breakwater Lighthouse. Ginny adored her grandsons. They never spent a winter without a brand-new coat from mom-mom, just one of the many kind gestures that made her special. They were the light of her life.

Ginny is survived by her son, Thomas of Saylorsburg, Pa., his wife Ann (Burns), and their son Tommy; and son, Timothy of Lewes, his wife Karen (Raser), and their three sons, Nolan, Benjamin and Samuel.

A private service for close friends and family will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 18, at All Saints’ Cemetery, Wilmington, where she will be interred with her late husband, Lester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Humane Animal Partners of Rehoboth Beach.

The Kerstetter family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the professional and compassionate care provided by her dear friends of Linden Knoll, and the staff of The Moorings at Lewes and Beebe Healthcare.
